Here are the Pros and two minor Cons:Pros 1. Why brew premium quality coffee, especially organic coffee, with plastic parts made in China? The Melitta is an all stainless steel coffee system. No plastic parts alter the taste or slowly release unhealthy chemicals into the coffee. In the typical electric drip coffee maker, plastic is everywhere, from start to finish. First, fresh water sits in a plastic reservoir, and then passes through hot plastic interior parts, and into other plastic parts, usually including a plastic filter holder. For $70-ish, we wanted a perc to last longer than 6 months. Reviews of various brands/models showed a decent perc that lasts several years apparently doesn't exist anymore. We opted for this new Melitta model b/c we've had 7+ good years with a hot water kettle w/the same type heating element. For 5 weeks the coffee has been hot and tasty...no complaints; then suddenly--it's still hot, but not brewing. Looks like tea. I'm tired of wasting expensive coffee in an attempt to see if this perc is truly dead after 5 weeks. Yes...sadly, it is. I timed it twice.Brewing 12 cups took 12 minutes and my normal six cup morning ritual (exactly two mugs worth) took 7 minutes until the green light said it was a go. I wish I had a thermometer so I could of stated the finished brewing temperature,but I feel it is not quite as hot as my stove top percolator it just replaced.Its 'keep warm' feature does just that,keeps it warm.I have had a second helping 90 minutes later and it was an acceptable temperature,but far from piping hot.
